Luis Figo has called on Gianni Infantino to step down as FIFA President, arguing that the Swiss football executive should take responsibility for the controversial proposal to sell a stake in the commercial rights of the FIFA World Cup to private investors. The proposal was eventually withdrawn after facing widespread opposition from across the football community.
Pressure on Infantino has intensified in recent days, with several football figures criticizing the proposal as being contrary to the long-term interests of the sport. UEFA was among the strongest opponents, arguing that football should not be treated as a commercial asset for private investment.
