Malaysia’s men’s sepak takraw team, known as the Golden Tigers, have received RM160,000 in rewards following their impressive performance at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The team secured one gold medal and one silver medal, bringing pride to Malaysian sports fans.
Golden Tigers Rewarded for Their Hard Work
The Sepak Takraw Association of Malaysia (PSM) presented the rewards to recognise the dedication, commitment and hard work of the national team throughout the competition.
The reward was shared among 12 players and two coaches. Besides the cash incentive, the team also received gold bars and shopping vouchers provided by Telekom Malaysia (TM Group), one of the association’s strategic partners.
The recognition highlights the importance of supporting Malaysian athletes who represent the country on the international stage.
PSM Raises Its Own Funds to Appreciate the Team
PSM president Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan said the association did not want to rely solely on government reward schemes to recognise the athletes’ achievements.
Instead, the association took the initiative to raise its own funds as a way of showing appreciation for the players’ sacrifices and efforts at the Asian Games, which take place every four years.
He also explained that the amount allocated for the rewards was determined by the association’s current financial capacity. However, the reward amount could potentially increase in the future, depending on its financial situation.
Sports Leaders Attend the Recognition Ceremony
Several prominent Malaysian sports figures attended the ceremony to celebrate the team’s achievement.
Among those present were Malaysian Olympic Council vice-president Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad, National Sports Council (MSN) director-general Jefri Ngadirin, and National Sports Institute chief executive officer Dr P. Vellapandian.
Their presence reflected the importance of recognising athletes who contribute to Malaysia’s sporting achievements.
